2011 Review, 2012 Expectations

The Better Hometown Program had a very busy 2011.  With resurgence in volunteer support and large events, spurred by the successful run of Clue in 2010, the program was able to bring several events and services to Pelham during the year.  The year was started in a grand fashion with New Years Eve celebration at the Hand Building.  This year’s Pelham’s Got Talent was the best yet.  With 15 acts in youth and adult categories and the prize pools larger, it was an evening of fun for young and old alike.  For the first year, the Chamber of Commerce and Better Hometown teamed up to host a Small Business Lunch.  Classic Hot Dog fair was enjoyed by our local business owners and their employees as thanks for keeping their services in Pelham.  In June the glorious clouds opened up and gave us some much needed rain, but it provided a great canopy for another joint event with the Chamber: A Slice of Summer.  Everyone enjoyed the homemade ice cream contest, slices of fresh watermelon and summer time tunes.  In August, we hosted a three night dinner theater presentation of Fools.  With a sponsorship from CNS cable, we were able to draw in crowds from several surrounding counties and bring to the stage a night of fun and a lot of laughs. This fall we hosted our 10th Annual Pelham Pumpkin Patch at the Depot. With over 300 children in attendance, it was a great time of pumpkins, games, and of course candy!  Once again the town was all a glitter with Christmas decor, as our design committee and team of workers blanketed the town with beautiful Christmas Decorations.  As you can tell, we were busy this year, exceeding over 1500 hours of service from our volunteers.

2012 is already shaping up to be as busy year with our annual events like Pelham’s Got Talent and the Pumpkin Patch.  We will also return to the stage with another wonderful production in the summer/fall.  Additionally, we will be working on Phase Three of our Streetscape project and hoping for grants to come through our newly appointed Certified Local Government status which the Historic Preservation Commission just received.  Our mission continues: to make Pelham a great place to live, work, have fun, and raise a family!
